On the evening of Thursday during the Navaratri Brahmotsvams, Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy was taken out on the charismatic Hamsa Vahanam in the guise of Saraswathi Devi-the Goddess of Wisdom playing the Veena.
Chants of ‘Govindanama’ reverberated in Tirumala as Sri Malayappa Swamy, mounted on the golden Hamsa Vahana playing the veena and took out a celestial ride along four mada streets.
Significance :
Goddess Saraswati is often depicted as a beautiful woman dressed in pure white, often seated on a white lotus, carried by a divine white swan symbolizing light, knowledge, chastity and truth.
According to legend, Lord Mahavishnu assumed the guise of a swan to restore the entire Vedic records to Lord Brahma, which were in the possession of a demon. The ritual explores themes of nobility and virtue, with the Lord conveying to humanity to embrace wisdom and shed all vices.
In our ancient texts it is clearly mentioned that the Parabrahma gave vedas to Lord Brahma the creator Himself, in the form of a Swan. This implies the importance of Swan. It has a born skill of distinguishing milk from water which is symbolic ability to identify good from bad.
The Swan also represents not only knowledge but also they experience the highest reality. By taking ride on this vehicle, Lord emphasized the importance of Satwa Guna or purity and the discrimination for true knowledge, insight and wisdom which is essential for humanity.
