The traditional temple cleansing festival, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, performed with religious fervour in the temple of Lord Venkateswara on Tuesday. TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal, Special Officer Sri AV Dharma Reddy and others took part in this religious event.
Later speaking to media outside temple, TTD EO said, usually this fete is observed four times in a year before annual Brahmotsavams, Anivara Asthanam, Telugu Ugadi and Vaikuntha Ekadasi. As the nine-day annual fete is going to be observed between September 30 to October 8, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed today from 6am till 10am. The significance behind this fete is to waive off the sins committed either knowingly or unknowingly by employees, religious staffs, devotees etc. and purify the entire temple premises with a herbal amalgamation called “Parimalam”.
“This Parimalam is applied on to the walls, roofs, pillars, in the main sanctum and also in other sub-shrines located in Tirumala temple by the employees. While doing this, the main deity will be covered with a veil and after the completion of cleansing of the temple and even the puja utensils, the veil is removed and prayers have been offered to the presiding deity and later the devotees were allowed for Darshan, the EO said.
Temple DyEO Sri Harindranath, Peishkar Sri Lokanatham and others were also present.
